One of the problem with dunking a trailer in water is that if the hubs are warm (if not hot), when it hits cold water the grease contracts ... and it can ‘suck’ water into the hub.the solution is to fit Bearing Buddies. I fitted the latest Bearing Buddies – these have a blue plastic indicator ring ... you pump in grease until it protrudes a few mm ... and when it drops back flush you know to top up.I also fitted the interestingly named Bearing Buddie BRA’s ...... these are soft PVC covers that pop over the end of nachi Bearing Buddy ... keeps the whole thing clean, and should there be any leakage – through over-pressure hole ... stops it flying out onto wheel rims.

These simply press fit into end of brake drum instead of standard end cap .... they contain a reservoir of grease under spring pressure (with seals ).. then if grease contracts there is a spare supply that presses forward – preventing any voids or ingress of water.Has benefit that as grease is under pressure it forces it into every part of the roller assembly.There is a side effect on ‘some’ installs, if the stub axles is not perfectly smooth, the standard grease seal on back of hub as it now has some pressure on it may leak grease.There is a very simple & cheap ‘add-on’ which is a highly polished stainless ring that fits over the stub axle, and a re-sized rear grease seal is provided to suit ... kit also includes an O-ring ... so all 3 combine to give an effective grease seal.
